Where is your favorite cute small town or village?
From the moment we set foot in the cute little town of Ghent, we instantly fell in love. It might have helped that the central square is dominated by three massive cathedrals (and I’m a sucker for cool architecture).
Full of more cute canals like those we found in the Netherlands, we felt right at home! Add to it the promise of Belgian waffles and chocolates, and we couldn’t have been happier!
We also met some incredible people there. Our first couchsurfer could only host us for one night, but he stopped at nothing to help us find a place after that. Some of his friends outside of town graciously accepted to have us, and they loved the experience so much they signed up for Couchsurfing, themselves! These are the kinds of experiences we live for on our travels 🙂

Geez, guys! I can barely keep up, let alone give you my unsolicited opinion! My only association with Ghent is the world-famous Ghent Altarpiece, painted by the Van Eyck Bros. In St. Bravo’s Cathedral. Maybe you saw it?
There has been a controversy over its recent restoration, which uncovered that the Lamb (representing Christ) depicted originally had a much more human (and creepy) face. Anyway here’s the wiki article on the piece: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghent_Altarpiece
That’s really cool! We didn’t actually see that altarpiece. We definitely walked past the cathedral, but we didn’t go inside. If I recall correctly, our feet were still really raw from walking all over Amsterdam, so we didn’t explore every corner of Ghent. Something to save for next time!
